In evaluation results announced by the National Natural Science Foundation of China on Aug. 24, JNU had 260 projects approved, ranking fifth in Guangdong with funding of more than 131 million yuan.
For the first time, a JNU project was approved by the foundation's Department of Interdisciplinary Science (a multidisciplinary intersection of traditional Chinese medicine, clinical medicine, biology, mathematics and artificial intelligence). Prof. He Rongrong of the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine leads the project, Research on Biological Basis of Disease Critical State, Mathematical Characterization of Multimodal Spatio-Temporal Network and Intervention Strategies of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

This is the second time JNU has received approval of a project with direct funding of 10 million yuan. In 2021, JNU received its first approval for an innovative research group project: Pharmacodynamic Substances of Traditional Chinese Medicine, led by Prof. Gao Hao of the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Medicine, with direct funding of 10 million yuan.

Two projects received grants from the National Outstanding Young Scientists Fund: Research Direction: Neural Circuit Mechanisms on Non-Image-Forming Visual Functions, led by Dr. Ren Chaoran of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Institute of CNS Regeneration, and Research Direction: Multidimensional Optical Information Artificial Microstructue, led by Dr. Li Xiangping of the Institute of Photonics Technology.
