Jinan University held its 2023 graduation and degree-awarding ceremonies on the Shipai, Panyu, Shenzhen and Zhuhai campuses from June 26 to 28. University leaders, heads of departments and faculties, and representatives of students and teachers attended witnessed the successful completion of 2023 graduates' studies and their beginning of a new journey in life.

At the ceremony, JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng announced the Decision of Jinan University on Commending Outstanding Graduates in the Class of 2023 and decisions on granting degrees. The officiating professors presented awards to the commended graduates.

This year, 9,400 graduates were granted degrees – including 3,741 undergraduates, 5,095 master’s students and 564 doctoral students – with 757 graduates commended.

Stepping onto the stage one by one, the graduates received their degree certificates and accepted the turning of tassels, then walked through the Degree Gate.

On behalf of the university, President Song Xianzhong congratulated all graduates.

Song said this was an important year to comprehensively promote the great rejuvenation of the nation with the Chinese path to modernization. As a mentor, he gave three exhortations: first, sing a youthful declaration of determination to serve the country; second, maintain a youthful posture of advocating peace; and third, cultivate a youthful temperament of being down-to-earth.

Graduates' representatives Pan Shimin, Ma Xinyuan, Wei Bishi, Qi Ming, Li Xiang and Xiong Rutong spoke at the graduation ceremonies on their respective campuses.

Before the ceremony, the students' art troupe performed songs including A Farewell to the South of the City and The Brightest Star in the Night Sky to the graduates.
