The 2023 graduation ceremony of the Jinan University-University of Birmingham Joint Institute at JNU was held in the International Meeting Hall in the Zeng Xianzi Science Center on the Shipai campus on June 21. President Song Xianzhong; Adam Tickell, vice chancellor and principal of the University of Birmingham, and leaders of other schools, as well as institute leaders and all graduates in the 2023 class, attended. Jamie Alcock, the institute's deputy dean, presided.
Tickell expressed his pleasure at coming to China for the first time as vice chancellor to witness the culmination of the students' work and highly praised the achievements of all graduates in the 2023 class.

On behalf of JNU, Song congratulated the students on the successful completion of their studies and thanked Tickell for attending.

When Chris Good, head of the University of Birmingham's School of Mathematics, read out the list of students who received degrees from his university, the graduates dressed in its bachelor's uniform went to the stage in turn. Tickell shook hands with the students one by one to congratulate them and posed for photos with them.

Chen Qixin, the valedictorian and excellent graduate in the 2023 class, shared her growth and achievements during her four years at JNU.
Song and Tickell both said they had high hopes for future in-depth cooperation. The signing ceremony for a dual master's degree program was held on Shipai campus, laying a foundation for closer collaboration between the two universities.
Based on the memorandum signed at the ceremony, both parties expressed their anticipation of continuing and expanding their partnership in the Joint Institute and reached a consensus on launching the dual master's program.

In a press interview after the ceremony, Song and Tickell discussed their universities' strategies for internationalization, the institute's initial results, and the ways they can empower and enhance each other. They also shared their perspectives on such topics as high-quality development of international education and cultivation of international talent.
