JNU held its 2023 JNU Commendation Ceremony for Excellent Students on May 26. Awards were presented to student representatives who won scholarships and honors at the provincial, ministerial and national levels. Also commended were representatives of the winners of 5A Extraordinary Class, JNU Excellent Class Leaders and Outstanding Students Awards under the 11th 5A Guiding Program, as well as winners of social scholarships. With the theme Excellent Role Models Guide JNU Students, the ceremony consisted of three parts: Undertake the Mission of Building a Strong Country, Be Assiduous in Academic Study and Show Great Dedication to Preserving Traditions.”

JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng acknowledged the performance of exceptional students and classes and said he hoped JNU students would soon mature into professionals who actively support the development of China and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and spread classic Chinese culture around the world.

JNU President Song Xianzhong announced the commendations and said he hoped JNU students would learn from these excellent students; associate personal growth with national development; keep in step with the times, and share weal and woe with China. JNU students will soon become talent to shoulder the responsibility of realizing the Chinese Dream, he said.

Speaking on behalf of faculty members was Liu Tao, party committee secretary of School of Journalism and Communication and winner of China's May Day Labor Medal and First Prize of the National College Young Teachers' Teaching Competition. Winner representatives who spoke included Li Zilong from the 2019 class in material physics in the College of Science and Engineering, winner of the National Scholarship; Ouyang Yongen from Macao, class leader from the International School's 2019 class in clinical medicine, winner of the 11th JNU Excellent Class Leaders; and Lin Jingrong from the 2019 class in public finance in the School of Economics, winner of the Arawana Scholarship.

The ceremony also presented students' orchestral performance of Vigorous Spirit, a poetry-song-dance titled Spark of Youth, the dance Count on Me and award-winning videos.
