Prof. Ante Simonić, Croatia's former vice premier and ambassador to China as well as President of the Croatian-Chinese Friendship Association (CCFA), visited JNU with CCFA Secretary General Rita Zhao and GAO Ling, an adviser on Croatian-Chinese international cooperation. They also met with JNU President Song Xianzhong..     

On behalf of the university, Song extended a warm welcome. He gave an introduction to JNU's history, operations and cooperation with Europe. He said he hoped to promote the establishment of extensive and in-depth academic cooperation between JNU and Croatian higher education institutions for joint progress and development.

Simonić expressed his gratitude for the friendly reception, saying he hoped he could help boost communication and cooperation between Croatian higher education institutions and JNU in traditional Chinese medicine, art and journalism. He said he would also try to advance the educational exchange and cooperation among China, Croatia and 16 other Central and Eastern European countries along the Belt and Road.

The two sides also discussed other cooperation matters and established a cooperative relationship between JNU and the University of Rijeka, Croatia.

Later, Simonić and Zhao visited the School of Medicine, the International School as well as the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine for academic meetings and speeches.
