This year's Jinan Book Fragrance Festival, on the theme Enjoy Reading and Enjoy the Poetic Lingnan, kicked off on April 21. A monthlong series of 28 activities, introducing the culture of Guangdong and nearby provinces in southeast China promoted reading, attracted more than 2000 readers from five campuses, including overseas Chinese and international students.

During the festival, JNU offered cultural activities based on South China's Lingnan culture, including Lingnan dialects, Lingnan food, Lingnan herbal medicine culture, lion culture, martial arts culture and other themes. Exhibitions, including Lingnan dialect books, Lingnan architecture books and Reading Lingnan, allowed readers to understand the cultural connotations of Lingnan through reading. JNU also organized several interactive activities related to Lingnan culture.
Hou Xingquan, a professor in the Chinese Department of JNU's School of Literature, was invited to lecture on d The Cultural Genes of Lingnan from the Perspective of Dialects and Familiar Languages, introducing in detail the Cantonese, Fujian and Hakka dialects of Lingnan and their hidden cultural core.

JNU organized students to participate in the fourth Guangdong 100 Classics of Traditional Chinese Culture knowledge competition. Seven online reader training sessions attracted nearly 1,000 participants. Twenty students were invited to experience the ancient papermaking process as an intangible cultural heritage in the restoration room through a combination of onsite teaching and practice.
In addition, the library held online prize quizzes, attracting nearly 500 readers from all JNU campuses. JNU also encouraged students to participate in the Guangdong University Library Learning Cup film review competition.
