Prof. James Heckman of the University of Chicago, winner of the 2000 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics Sciences, visited JNU on May 18, giving a public lecture on Interactions as Investments: The Microdynamics and Measurement of Early Childhood Learning.

Prof. Feng Shuaizhang, dean of the School of Economics and the Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR), extended a warm welcome to Heckman. On JNU's recommendation through the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Heckman received the Chinese Government Friendship Award in 2019 for his long-term commitment to research on China's early investment in human capital.
In this lecture, Heckman began by introducing the early childhood development project China REACH he developed with his collaborators in China, then emphasized the sharing of the research progress and the latest research achievements using project data.

After the lecture, Heckman met with six outstanding students in IESR's Talent Program Under the Background of Developing New Arts and Humanities. The students spoke freely on topics including problems in employment, education, aging and finance.
