A conference on the co-construction of JNU was held in Guangzhou on May 19, organized by the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Guangdong. Chen Xu, vice minister of the CPC Central Committee's United Front Work Department and director of the State Council's Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, attended.

JNU should seize the opportunity of co-construction to improve its capacity for high-quality development, strengthen discipline construction and further implement its development through human resources strategy, Chen said. In this way, he said, it can bring up more Chinese youths of the new era who love the Party, the country and the school, and more international youths who are pro-China, China-friendly and sinophile. As a university for overseas Chinese, Chen said, JNU must give full play to its advantages and responsibilities. It should make more contributions to human resources development, theoretical research and policy publicity to better serve the Party's united front work, he stressed.
