The second phase of the 17th Innovation Competition of Jinan University was held on Panyu campus on April 20, hosted by the Office of Academic Affairs and organized by the College of Economics. With seven teams entering, one Best Project, one Most Popular and three Outstanding Projects were finally selected. Combining arts and science, and highlighting innovative ideas and project achievements, the projects presented an innovative show to the students and teachers in attendance. 

The Smog Doctor project won both the Best Project Award and the Most Popular Award. Minimally invasive surgical procedures produce smoke, and while the amount is small, it can harm patients' and doctors' health. To address this challenge, Smog Doctor,  a pioneer in the field of surgical smoke decontamination, has been created. The project has been awarded a number of patents and supported by companies including the Guangzhou Deep Breath Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., and the Shenzhen Yetrue Digital Co., Ltd. In addition, it has a strategic partnership agreement with Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Hospital. Opening a new avenue for surgical smoke decontamination, this project is expected to have a positive influence on the health of patients and the quality of surgery.

Sediment Feed: A New Idea for Recycling Fish Farming Waste, which adds bacterial strains to farming tailwater and sludge, and to turn sediment and sewage into fertilizer, won an Outstanding Project Award.

Educate and Play: Museum Internet Educational Game Design was also named an Outstanding Project. It combines cultural relics and the historical events behind them with games through an online + offline model. The offline project relies on a museum’s cultural relics to create an interactive game based on their characteristics and the history behind them, while the online project allows exposes young people to museum-related information by developing museum-themed games and bringing them into the museum. 

Another Outstanding Project, Xiang Yun Silk Cultural Promotion Tour and Live-Action Role Play, combines the intangible heritage product Xiang Yun Silk with the new way of social networking, live-action role play. Through role-play, reading interaction and logical reasoning, it allows young people to gain a deeper understanding of intangible cultural heritage like Xiang Yun Silk.
