Jinan University won first prize in the 15th National Structure Design Contest for College Students, held from March 23 to 26 at Taiyuan University of Technology, where 111 teams from 110 universities and colleges competed in model-making, testing, weighing, oral defense and loading. Team members from JNU’s School of Mechanics and Construction Engineering were Tan Shuai and Feng Yuxuan, both from the 2020 civil engineering class, and Lin Jirong from the 2021 class. Their tutors are Associate Prof. Gao Ruofan and Lecturer Zeng Lan.

Launched in 2005, the contest was one of the first nine funded programs of national discipline competitions for college students jointly approved by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. It is China’s highest and largest comprehensive discipline innovative competition in civil engineering.

Since 2006, JNU has successfully held 12 Structure Design Contests, its brand of sci-tech competition. It also held the first Cross-Strait Structural Model Competition in 2016.
