To review the university's exceptional development and the unwavering dedication of faculty members and students throughout the past year, and to draw strength from them, JNU initiated the online selection activity “Top 10 News Stories of JNU in 2022.” The top stories were initially selected by the News Center, followed by online voting from teachers, students and alumni. A comprehensive evaluation was then conducted, culminating in approval by the school administrators. Through this process, these were determined to have been the Top 10 News Stories for JNU in 2022:

1. JNU studies, publicizes and implements the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). JNU convenes a work deployment meeting of studying and implementing the spirit with an emphasis on promoting five major tasks, and holds seminars on special themes. Four JNU publicity teams give publicity lectures all around the university.

2. Discipline development again reaches a new level. The pharmacy discipline is again selected for the list of world-class disciplines. Several JNU disciplines make significant breakthroughs in the fifth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education. Microbiology and other disciplines newly enter the top 1% of ESI, with a total of 17. The School of Management is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Thirty-four national and provincial first-class undergraduate programs are newly approved.

3. JNU faculty members win a number of significant awards. The Convergence Journalism faculty is honored in the second batch of Awards of National University Huang Danian Faculty (a high-quality, professional and innovative faculty). JNU's total number of awards and first prizes in the Second National College Teaching Innovation Competition ranks first in China. Visiting Prof. Jack Augustine Croman receives the Chinese Government Friendship Award.

4. JNU's achievements are selected for the 2022 National Philosophy and Social Science Achievement Library. The number of National Social Science Fund of Chinese Academic External Translation Projects approved reaches a record high. JNU is approved for 15 national social science major projects.

5. JNU makes a record achievement in the key and major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and a breakthrough in Guangdong Science and Technology Awards. The College of Pharmacy team’s achievement is named among China's important medical progress in 2021.

JNU applied for 1,497 NSFC projects in 2022. It obtained 274 funded projects with record direct funds of over 160 million yuan, including 20 key and major projects, another record. Meanwhile, nine JNU projects, with itself as the signature unit of the first author, win Guangdong Science and Technology Awards, including two first prizes, six second prizes and one Co-operation Award.

6. JNU students win awards in the China Adolescents' Science and Technology Innovation Contest, the National Challenge Cup and the China International College Students' Internet+ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. Guangming Daily publishes the training results of students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and abroad. 

7. Three grassroots party branches at JNU are selected as units for the cultivation and construction of Model Branches for National Party Building. One project is selected as one of the Excellent Projects in Ideological and Political Work of Colleges and Universities by the Ministry of Education; and 20 projects in Party-building are established at the provincial level.

8. JNU issues the Outline of Cultural Construction Plan, promoting its building of university culture with the characteristics of a university for overseas Chinese through implementation of the six measures. The first Perfect Envoy of Chinese culture” is selected. JNU wins a UNESCO chair on “Global Traditional Handicrafts: Inheritance and Innovation.”

9. New progress is achieved in campus construction and internationalization of higher education: JNU furthers the construction of the Panyu campus second-phrase project and launches the node control project of JNU Science Park at Zhuhai. Japan College of Jinan University holds its 2022 opening ceremony.

10. JNU faculty members and students at home and abroad stand together in solidarity to fight Covid-19. A medical team of 200 from the First Affiliated Hospital of JNU is sent to take over the whole Nansha Makeshift Hospital system.
