JNU held its Strategic Seminar on 2022 Development and Planning on Sept. 27 and 28 in the International Conference Hall of JNU's Science Museum. Focusing on establishing moral values, the seminar examined the problems and challenges facing JNU's cultivating talents; analyzed new approaches to nurturing innovative talents against the backdrop of building a Double First-Class university; and identified the development plans and strategic deployment in its future talent cultivation.

In this seminar, JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng highlighted that high-quality talent cultivation not only engenders the prosperity of certain majors and disciplines, but also improves a university's quality of education and social reputation. In this regard, the seminar generated ideas and means through comprehensive discussions on the challenges and reform bottlenecks facing JNU's cultivating talents, producing guidelines for JNU's higher-quality talent cultivation.

During the seminar, President Song Xianzhong gave his keynote report about reforming JNU's talent cultivation model. Guided by the five major functions of university – talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international exchanges and cooperation, Song analyzed the status quo of JNU's talent cultivation from the perspective of the Third-Party Evaluation Index System. He pointed out current cultivating problems and, with many examples and cases, gave his opinions on JNU's future talent cultivation model from different perspectives, including all-around talent cultivation, the relationship between basic disciplines and applied disciplines, and the community of teachers and students.

Vice President Ye Wencai gave a special report on cultivating first-class graduate students. Vice President Weng Jian gave a special report on the cultivation of first-class undergraduates. The seminar centered on the construction of first-class majors and courses; the nurturing of first-class teachers and high-level talent; discipline crossing and cultivation of innovative talents; integration of production and education; cultivation of applied talents; general education, and cultivating talents for basic research. It promoted in-depth discussions; analyzed the shortcomings and bottlenecks faced by JNU’s current talent cultivation; and explored ideas and countermeasures to improve the quality of talent cultivation.
