The disciplines of literature and history in JNU’s College of Liberal Arts were founded in 1927. To commemorate their 95th anniversary and the 5th anniversary of the philosophy discipline, the college organized an activity on Sept. 25 on the theme “Continuing the Cultural Lineage, Opening a New Chapter: Face to Face With Famous Artists of Literature and History (Outstanding Social Scientists of Guangdong).” Nearly 200 people from all walks of life, including teachers and students, participated, and the event was livestreamed to the public, attracting nearly 1,000 viewers.

Cheng Guofu, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, described the development of the literature and history disciplines, JNU’s first two basic disciplines and the basis for the college’s founding.

Since 2011, five JNU scholars have won the title Excellent Social Scientist of Guangdong, and four are in the College of Liberal Arts in the discipline of literature and history.The college invited the four — Zhan Bohui, Ao Pengzi, Jiang Shuzhuo and Cheng Guofu –, for one-on-one “academic life interviews” and a roundtable talk. The interviews were conducted by Wang Jingzhou, vice dean of the College of Arts, coveringsuch topics as discipline construction, academic research, teaching, cultural inheritance, social service, new liberal arts construction, and the relationship with the College of Arts.
