At JNU's 2022 Teachers' Day Celebration and Commendation Conference on Sept. 9, Su Bingtian, a associate professor in the School of Physical Education, donated 1 million yuan to the JNU Education Development Foundation to establish the 983 High-Level Athletes Training Fund. The fund will support the cultivation of high-level athletes with patriotism and enthusiasm for serving the country, as well as aggressive competitive spirit.
In April, to commend Su's major breakthrough at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, JNU awarded him the Major Merit Prize. Su set up the training fund in September.
From the grassroots level to the present, I deeply understand that how difficult it is to be a sports student, Su said at the conference. Thus, I came up with the idea of donating the prize money for students' training. He added: Someone once asked me, is it possible for Su Bingtian to push his limit after the record of 9.83 seconds? I want to say that limits are set by others. I don't break through limits. I break through myself.
To cultivate more sprint reserve talents, Su Bingtian Center for Speed Research and Training was formally founded on Dec. 27by JNU, the Guangdong Sports Bureau and the Chinese Athletics Association. Powered by subject construction and technical innovation, the center explores the cutting edge of track and field training (sprint, hurdling and jump). It also serves the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; participates in technical service like monitoring training related to the national teams' preparation for the Olympic Games and Asian Games; cultivates reserve talents; promotes the health of all citizens with competitive sports, and develops the cause of physical education through sports spirit.
