Song put forward three hopes for the freshmen: that they would have great ambitions and build a firm belief in serving the country through their studies; that they would explore bravely and strengthen their belief in discarding the old and establishing the new; and that they would be strong-hearted and increase their confidence in overcoming difficulties.
Song also encouraged students to understand JNU, integrate into it, love it and carry it forward.

JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng pointed out that the military training, as a basic way for college students to fulfill their military service obligations and receive national security and defense education, is helpful for them in building awareness of national defense and patriotism.
Lin also put forward three requirements for the freshmen: that they fully recognize the great significance of national defense education; that they have the ambition to strengthen China and forge a strong physique; and that they put safety first, cooperating with pandemic prevention and control.
As a freshman representative, Zhao Zhensen, a student in the School of Stomatology, shared his experience of participating in the freshman training camp. Kuang Cuiying, a graduate student in communication from the School of Journalism and Communication, expressed her happy experience living and growing up at JNU as an undergraduate, as well as her longing to return to the campus this fall to start her new study life. Xu Hexiang, a graduate student in optical engineering in the Institute of Photonics Technology, also shared his feelings about studying in JNU as an undergraduate.

The undergraduate military training and freshman training camp were held immediately after the opening ceremony. Then all freshmen participated in JNU's First Class. The freshman training camp is JNU's first-of-its-kind education model for freshmen in China, based on the characteristics of schools for overseas Chinese students. Through team-building, experiential education, lectures, physical exercise, cultural and sports competitions, interactive exchanges and cultural inspections, the new undergraduates from overseas can experience classic Chinese culture and the diverse and inclusive campus culture. They can also create an atmosphere of living together, learning and growing, thus comprehensively promoting their learning process and development.
