67.5% of IESR Graduates Continue Studies

Date: June 10, 2022

Source: Institute for Economic and Social Research

In JNU's Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR), 67.5% of the economics graduates in the International Innovation Class will further their studies, 80% of them at universities in the top 100 in the QS World University Rankings. Two were even offered admission to doctoral programs in applied economics in North America and the U.K.

In additional, five students have enrolled in master's programs at double first-class universities, including Renmin University of China, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Beihang University.

The graduates are the third class in the program, which cultivates students' innovation consciousness, research ability and comprehensive quality. Adopting the international first-class training mode, the Innovation Class provides diverse specialized courses in English.

IESR has employed returning talents to cultivate internationally competitive students. It currently has over 40 full-time teachers, 90% of whom, including three foreign teachers, earned doctorates from renowned institutions overseas.

In terms of teaching system reform, the Innovation Class implements a tutorial system at the undergraduate stage and adopts a teaching model with small classes, providing students with more access to educational resources and academic guidance. In addition, IESR regularly invites world-renowned economists to deliver public lectures such as the Jinan Lecture, the Rural Revitalization Seminar, and the Social Investigation and Application Lecture. Top scholars including James Heckman, Christopher Pissarides and Joshua Angrist, all winners of the Nobel Prize in economics, have given public lectures or short courses.

Twenty JNU projects, including two national projects, four provincial projects and 14 university projects, have been approved in such competitions as the Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the Challenge Cup and Guangdong Climbing Plan, greatly helping graduates get into famous institutions around the world.
