Four JNU students were among the Top 10 Outstanding Hong Kong Students on May 28 in the finals of the first such selection in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). In the finals, with the main venue in Guangzhou and a branch venue in Hong Kong, Yang Shuyue and Zheng Xinian of JNU's School of Journalism and Communication; Xie Binhua of the School of Mechanics and Construction Engineering and Lao Shifang of the International Studies School were evaluated on personal presentations, a group report and other sections. Yang, Lao and Zheng also received the Cultural Heritage Award, the Public Welfare Practice Award and the Style Award, respectively.
During the selection jointly hosted by the One Country Two Systems Youth Forum and the Guangzhou Center for Youth Exchange Between Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao, Hong Kong students from JNU, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, and other colleges and universities in the Greater Bay Area competed for the Top 10 Outstanding Hong Kong Students Award and six individual awards.

Winners:
Lao, a member of the 2018 class in international politics, is a founder of the Cheng Li Volunteer Service Team set up by JNU students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. She volunteered to distribute medical care materials to those infected during Hong Kong’s fifth wave of COVID-19. She is driving more and more people around her to pay attention to and join the team of youth volunteers.
Zheng, a member of the 2019 class in broadcasting and hosting, is a member of the Sheng Hai Studio of the School of Journalism and Communication. She is committed to telling Chinese culture and the history of the Communist Party of China well in Cantonese from the perspective of Hong Kong youth.
Yang, a doctoral candidate in the 2019 class in journalism and communication, is vice president of the Hong Kong-Tianjin Youth Association. She volunteers with public welfare groups in Hong Kong and is the author of Traveling Around the GBA, a column introducing Hong Kong people to travel and culture in the Greater Bay Area. She has millions of followers on social media like Weibo.
Xie, a master's degree candidate in the 2020 class in civil and water engineering, has committed himself to serving students at Jinan University for six years. He has won titles including Excellent Student Cadre, Top 100 Outstanding Seniors, Leader Star and Outstanding Volunteer at the Annual Summit of Academicians in the GBA, and Good Youth of Guangdong Province, to name a few. He has been interviewed many times by Shanghai Mercury, CCTV News, People's Daily Online and China Youth Daily.
