JNU held an online forum for a training class of Belt and Road countries which jointly build on governance capacity on May 31. The event was organized by the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission and Intellisia Institute jointly with JNU's International Cooperation and Exchange Center. The 55 participants came from the governments, banks, non-governmental organizations, and other important departments and institutions of Sudan, Kenya, Myanmar, Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and other countries.

Pu Ruoqian, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Center, introduced participants to the history and development of JNU’s international exchange and cooperation. She pointed out that as an important link between China and the Belt and Road countries, JNU attaches great importance to international exchange and cooperation, especially with universities and research institutions along the Belt and Road. It promotes the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, and also advocates the global governance concept of extensive consultation, joint contribution, shared benefits through teaching and research cooperation.

(Pu Ruoqian delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum)

Among those attending were Prakasa Gigih Surya, senior database analyst in the Land Fund of State-Owned Assets Administration of Indonesia's Ministry of Finance; Saputra Agustinus Imam from Indonesia's Taxation and Valuation Departments; Jane Githui, director of the Economic Planning Board of the city of Mombasa's government in Kenya; Affan Mohamed, the Mombasa government commissioner in Kenya’s Inland Revenue; Su Su Maw, deputy director of Myanmar's Ministry of Finance and Planning; Mustafa Abdelgadir Mohamedelfadol Alidinar, an economist with Sudan's Central Bank; and Ahmet Faruk Isik, Aisa-Pacific coordinator of the Foreign Economic Relations Committee of Turkey's Ministry of Trade. They described their countries’ situations and said they would actively promote future cooperation and development with China.

JNU has carried out cooperation and exchanges with universities and institutions in many Belt and Road countries, including the University of General Soedirman and Gadjah Mada University, Maasai Mara University in Kenya, and Middle East Technical University in Turkey. This semester JNU has more than 2,700 international students, 2194 of them from 76 Belt and Road countries. The nearly 700 others are from Sudan, Kenya, Myanmar, Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and other countries.
