A program submitted by JNU's Graduate School was among 33 selected as typical cases on accelerating the reform and development of postgraduate education in the new era in a list announced by the Ministry of Education's Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education. The program, “Great Push for the High-Quality Development of Postgraduate Education for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese Students,” is one of the two selected in Guangdong; the other is from Sun Yat-sen University.
The program comprehensively summarizes JNU’s experience in reforming postgraduate education for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese students, including deepening reform of the admission mechanism; strengthening patriotic education; improving teaching and training quality; and implementing the plan for multi-faceted research result evaluation and academic dissertation quality assurance. After the summary, the program expounds JNU’s path of across-the-board reform to bring out the full potential of higher education and its achievements, focusing on how JNU promotes high-quality development of postgraduate education for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese students.
To continuously push forward JNU’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for academic degree and postgraduate education, the Graduate School laid down nine reform action plans:
• Coordinating whole course education, overall education and all-member education.
• Cultivating and constructing first-class degree programs.
• Elevating postgraduate enrollment in both quality and quantity.
• Boosting integration between science and education, and between industry and education.
• Consolidating the foundation of postgraduate educational resources.
• Cultivating talents for China’s high-level, elite, top-notch and urgently needed disciplines.
• Creating multiple evaluation of academic achievements and improving dissertation quality.
• Building a team of competent postgraduate supervisors and administrators.
• Enhancing international communication and joint cultivation of postgraduates.
The nine plans are expected to consolidate the foundation for JNU’s double-first-class discipline construction and high-quality coordinated development.
