Date: April 24, 2022

Some students enjoy reading books and become the Reading Stars of libraries at Guangdong universities and colleges, while others, known as Library Lovers, spend a large amount of time studying in the libraries. How do they manage to borrow nearly 600 books and visit libraries more than 1,000 times a year?

(Zhang Jiayuan, a junior majoring in computer science in Guangzhou University's School of Computer Science and Cyber Engineering)

Zhang Jiayuan, who borrowed 594 books (not the exact number of books he read, as he borrowed even more books using his roommate's ID) from the Guangzhou University Library last year, took the top spot in the borrowing records, about 270 more than the reader who ranked the second.

(Liu Yaobao, a postgraduate in the Master of Translation and Interpreting program in JNU's College of Foreign Studies)

As the student who borrowed the most books at Jinan University in 2021, Liu took out 333 in a wide range, especially history.

(Lin Yuting, a sophomore majoring in business English at Guangzhou Railway Polytechnic)

Named the Reading Star of the college library, Lin Yuting borrowed 130 books, most of which were literature and the rest sociology, philosophy, economics and books pertinent to her major.

(Kong Yilian, a junior majoring in environmental science and engineering at South China University of Technology)

(Shu Cheng, a junior majoring in environmental science and engineering at South China University of Technology)

Kong Yilian and Shu Cheng both went to the library over 800 times, according to a reading report published by their university’s library. There they met and fell in love. They are both top students, with Shu ranking first in all required courses for five successive terms. Kong, who is in the top 10% of her class, has served as student union president and deputy secretary of Youth League Committee in School of Environment and Energy.

(Zheng Nan, a 2019 doctoral student majoring in comparative literature and world literature at JNU)

Zheng Nan, who went to the library more than 1,196 times during year, was honored as a Library Lover. I pretty much spent the whole day in the library last year, Zheng said.
