The project Data Security Theory and Methods in Complex User Environments, led by JNU Vice President Weng Jian, won first prize in the Guangdong Natural Science Awards on April 15.
After nearly 10 years' research, we have proposed a new method for defining security models and a new theory for security certification under complex adversary attacks, and designed a series of cryptography schemes which is secure, efficient, scalable and multifunctional, said Weng, a member of the Cybersecurity Discipline Review Group of the State Council's Academic Degrees Committee.
The JNU team has established a data security and privacy computing platform in cooperation with Guangzhou enterprises, Weng said. This platform realizes raw data not out of the domain, data available but not visible, controllable and measurable, according to the General Office of the State Council in Comprehensive Reform Pilot Program for the Market-Based Allocation of Elements. It also helps government, institutions and enterprises solve the problem of safety and privacy protection for clients in the data circulation process and unleashes the value of data elements, bringing economic and social benefits.
Weng, a researcher as well as an educator, said he looked forward to cultivating more patriotic cryptography and cybersecurity professionals who are willing to devote themselves to national strategies and have both rich theoretical knowledge and strong practical ability to guard China’s data and cyber security. To this end, the project will continue to deepen research on data security against quantum computing attacks.
