JNU's pharmacy discipline has been listed as a first-class discipline in the second list of universities and disciplines that will participate in China’s plan for the construction of world-class universities and first-class disciplines, released by the Ministries of Education and Finance and the National Development and Reform Commission.
How will JNU write a new chapter of its pharmacy discipline?
1. It will figure out the direction through Party construction.
2. It will shore up weaknesses through interdisciplinary studies.
By integrating relevant subject resources such as basic medicine and biology, the pharmacy discipline has initially established a new development pattern with the pharmacy discipline as the core. It will rely on the cultivation of national key laboratories and the construction of the National Engineering Center for Genetically Engineered Drugs.
3. It will become a world-class discipline through platform-building.
JNU has already established these scientific research platforms for its pharmacy discipline: the National Engineering Research Center for Genetically Engineered Drugs; six ministerial or provincial key laboratories, including the Joint Laboratory of International Cooperation on Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Research of Innovative Drugs and the Guangdong Key Laboratory of Innovative Drugs and Effective Substance Basis; eight ministerial or provincial engineering centers, including the Engineering Center of for Genomic Drugs, established in 2002; two Guangzhou key laboratories, including the Laboratory of Innovative Chemical Drugs for Cardio Vascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases; the Innovation and Talent Recruitment Base of Innovative Drug Discovery and Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine; the Collaborative Innovation Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Medicine in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao; and seven international scientific research cooperation platforms, including the International Science and Technology Cooperation and Innovation Platform for Universities in Guangdong.

At present, of the over 150 full-time teachers (including 9 from overseas) in the pharmacy discipline, more than 82% hold a senior title, 91% have doctorates, 85% have overseas experience, and 20% are national or provincial high-level talents.
5. It will pursue original and innovative scientific research.
Seven new Class I chemical drugs and five new Class I traditional Chinese medicines are in development. Three new drugs have been approved for clinical research, and seven types of new drugs are in clinical research.
6. It will promote commercialization of scientific achievements.
The pharmacy discipline has established seven entities for scientific achievement transformation, including the Xiangxue Pharmaceutical Academician Workstation for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Medicine, and the JNU-Baiyunshan Zhongyi Pharmaceutical Institute for Modern Chinese Medicine. The discipline is committed to promoting the development of the pharmaceutical industry.
7. It will launch featured specialties.
The pharmacy discipline will launch “Regulations on Pharmaceutical Products in Hong Kong and Macao” and other featured courses. Through specialized training, diverged teaching and consistent integration, it aims to build a teaching mode for students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas.
8. It will cultivate new talent with political lectures.
9. It will strengthen international cooperation.
The College of Pharmacy will continue to strengthen scientific cooperation with Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and the countries along the Belt and Road, promoting the building of joint international research laboratories. It will keep implementing agreements on cooperative education and scientific research signed with the University of Birmingham, the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute at the University of Melbourne, Australia, the University of Auckland and other famous universities.
