Prof. Li Xiaojiang's team from JNU's Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Central Nervous Regeneration Institute published a review paper on March 25 in the international life-science journal Protein Cell (IF: 14.870). Titled New pathogenic insights from large animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, the paper is co-authored by Profs. Li Xiaojiang and Li Shihua and researchers Yin Peng and Yang Weili. It summarizes and reviews the merits and limitations of building major neurodegenerative diseases models by using large animals with similarities to humans, such as pigs and monkeys. This paper can assist for scholars studying why neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's, Huntington's, Parkinson's and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, present typical nerve cell death in specific brain areas, which has long concerned neuroscientists.
