JNU news articles won two first prizes and four prizes in the Education News Awards, the Guangdong Education Department announced on March 18.
One first-prize winner focused on how JNU students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan fought on the front lines of the pandemic. It has been republished by several mainstream media, including Guangdong Daily and Guangdong Radio and Television.
The other first prize winner spot lighted JNU medical workers who rushed to support Wuhan on the eve of Lunar New Year of 2020. It was written in the early stage of the outbreak and posted on JNU’s official WeChat account at the stroke of midnight. Later it triggered widespread concern and soon received over 100,000 views. After it was forwarded over 5,000 times, JNU alumni and people from all walks of life saw the news and offered to donate money and materials, passing on the positive energy.
The Guangdong Education Department launched the Education News Awards in October 2021. Since then, journalists in local education departments, universities and social media have actively participated. From 950 works submitted, the experts and scholars on the panel of judges awarded 61 first prizes, 96 second prizes and 150 third prizes.
