In March, JNU issued its 14th Five-Year Plan, titled High Quality Development Into Efficiency, Cooperation and Integration. The plan, totaling about 30,000 Chinese characters, consists of five sections: development basis and environment; development thinking; main tasks and development methods; guarantee measures, and implementation. This plan consolidates the foundation for high-quality coordinated development in the new era.
The plan focuses on six development goals:
•Building talent cultivation hubs for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area by accelerating the cultivation of innovative and well-rounded students.
•Promoting cluster construction and coordinated development of disciplines by building and developing world-class disciplines.
•Becoming a demonstration zone of first-class educators' competence by moving faster to introduce and train talents.
•Advancing scientific research by improving innovation of institutions and mechanisms for scientific research.
•Setting a new benchmark for higher education institutions to serve economic and social development by comprehensively developing the capacity and quality of social service.
•Creating a new image of international exchanges and cooperation by enrolling more international students.
The plan highlights eight development tasks:
•Ideological education should be enhanced through Party construction as well as the ideological and political lessons.
•Innovative and well-rounded talents in the new era should be cultivated through character education and cooperative education.
•World-class disciplines should be further developed through interdisciplinary and cluster construction.
•A first-class faculty should be developed through recruiting and training.
•The application of advances in science and technology should be encouraged through long-term vision and cooperation with enterprises.
•JNU should speak out more powerfully through social media while carrying forward Chinese culture.
•A new pattern of international exchange and cooperation should be created through two-way communication.
•The coordinated development of JNU's campuses should be promoted through the integration of the Shipai and Panyu campuses, and coordination among the Huawen, Zhuhai and Shenzhen campuses.
