Prof. Guo Tuan's team from JNU's Institute of Photonics Technology, in collaboration with Prof. Lu Xihong's team at Sun Yat-sen University, has published a paper titled Operando Monitoring of Ion Activities in Aqueous Batteries With Plasmonic Fiber-Optic Sensors in Nature Communications (IF= 14.9). The paper reports a highly sensitive electrochemical plasmon resonance fiber-optic sensor. This research takes the lead in a real-time, in-situ and precise measurement of nanoscale electrons and ions' dynamic distribution and energy storage kinetics process inside batteries, providing methodological support for discovering the batteries’ microcosmic working mechanism and developing a new battery system.

The first authors are Wang Runlin, a master's degree candidate at JNU, and other scholars. Guo and Lu are the corresponding authors. This collaboration was accomplished by JNU, Sun Yat-sen University, Carleton University in Canada and a team from the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada.
The research was mainly supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
