The fifth International Symposium on Chinese Language Education and the 20th Anniversary Symposium on Chinese Language Teaching and Research kicked off on Dec. 18. The symposium was jointly organized by JNU's College of Chinese Language and Culture and Huaqiao University's Chinese Language and Culture College. with a total of 137 scholars made academic presentations, including more than 20 experts and scholars from many countries and regions, including the United States, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Italy and Singapore, as well as the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Nearly 500 people attended the opening ceremony and the first invited report online.

The symposium discussed new technical conditions, theories and methods of education in Chinese language and culture in the post-Covid-19 era, with six specially invited academic reports and eight grouped reports. Its purpose was to broaden and deepen the research field of and to promote its development.
. The symposium focused on transformation, change and upgrading of Chinese language education in the new era to conduct multi-level, multi-faceted and multi-channel research; build an academic platform for communication and exchange among scholars; and promote the discipline’s development.
The history of the journal TCSOL Studies was reviewed and its future development discussed. The quarterly, supervised by JNU and hosted by the College of Chinese Language and Culture’s Chinese Language and Culture Education Research Institute, was first published in 2001. It highlights the characteristics of Chinese education; boosts the coordinated development of education in Chinese language and culture education and international Chinese education; and promotes overseas Chinese and modern Chinese studies.
