JNU's College of Chemistry and Materials Science celebrated its fifth anniversary and the second anniversary of its alumni association on Nov. 27.

JNU President Song Xianzhong said in his speech that since its founding in 1930, JNU's chemistry discipline had cultivated many cutting-edge talents and leaders, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Changjiang Scholars and outstanding entrepreneurs, as well as pillars of the country from all walks of life. He strongly affirmed the efforts of the college's teachers and students who in just five years have made breakthroughs in doctoral programs, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key laboratories at provincial and ministerial levels, and national first-class undergraduate programs. Song said he hoped the college would take its fifth anniversary as a new starting point and make greater contributions to build JNU into a double first-class and high-level university.
Dean Li Dan reviewed the development of the chemistry discipline, especially its construction, teaching and research; faculty and personnel training. He paid tribute to leaders at all levels, alumni, retired faculty and staff members, and current faculty members.
Representatives of alumni, young teachers and students spoke, saying they hoped the college could achieve greater development in the future.
During the celebration, the launching ceremony of the Discipline and Education Promotion Fund of the JNU College of Chemistry and Materials Science was held, with many leaders participating.

Many donors, including Long Zhuofei, chairman of Champland Winlong Ltd.; Luo Haijian, an alumna from the 1999 class; Shenzhen China-America Coating, Ltd., and the applied chemistry classes of 1997 and 1998 gave the fund a total of 1.42 million yuan.
