In 2004, Chen Zhizhong, now an associate professor in JNU's School of Journalism and Communication, received an offer of admission to a doctoral program at Tsinghua University and began his new life in the mainland, leaving his native Taiwan with the support of his family. In 2008, he began teaching at Jinan University. He has been now teaching for 12 years, delivering countless students and academic achievements, including being one of the 2021 Guangdong Excellent Teachers and winning the President Award, the first prize in JNU's undergraduate teaching competition. Moreover, he was selected as one of the Double Hundred Talents teachers and presided over three provincial teaching research projects. His course Media Economics was selected as one of Guangdong's first-class undergraduate courses and one of the Golden Courses for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese students. His postgraduate course Media Industry Development Research was selected as a model for postgraduates in Guangdong. He has also guided the Challenge Cup and the National College Student Entrepreneurship Competition several times, with his students winning first prize of the 16th Challenge Cup at the national level in 2019.

Chen insists on teaching on the front line, with more than 700 class hours a year. In addition to specialized courses including Media Economics, Media Management and English News Compilation and Translation in the School of Journalism and Communication, he teaches related courses in the International School's English-immersion program. His undergraduate teaching evaluation score is over 90.
Chen says he enjoys guiding students to do what they are interested in because love is the best teacher. His project Investigation and Research on the Present Situation and Related Factors of National Identity of Taiwanese Students won first prize in the 16th National Challenge Cup.

Chen is not only close to students but also a happy dad to his two children. As people say, “Life is promising for those who have ideals.”
