The launching ceremony of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Informatization and the first meeting of its First Academic Committee of the laboratory were held at Jinan University on July 9, 2021.

JNU President Song Xianzhong attended. Others attending online and off included JNU Vice President Zhang Ronghua; Huang Jiangkang, director of the Laboratory and Platform Base of the Guangdong Department of Science and Technology; Su Guohui, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Wang Wei, president of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, and other committee members.

Su, Huang and Song jointly unveiled the laboratory at the meeting. Later, Song and Huang issued the letter of appointment to members of the academic committee and the laboratory's director and deputy director.

Zhang spoke on the establishment background, construction objectives and research content of the laboratory. In addition, the six deputy directors gave work reports on their research areas.

The laboratory's establishment by Zhang was officially approved in March. The laboratory gathered many excellent researchers from JNU in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine, information science and technology. Relying on JNU's double first-class platform and big data-based knowledge discovery, researchers develop better understanding of dominant diseases, correlation between prescriptions and syndromes, and original Lingnan medicinal materials. By making full use of the new generation of information technology, the researchers can reveal TCM's deep scientific principles so as to modernize the industry and improve Guangdong's health service system.
