On Aug.18, a research team led by Prof. Wu Jianguo of JNU published an article titled HIF-1α promotes SARS-CoV-2 infection and aggravates inflammatory responses to COVID-19 online in Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy, a journal affiliated with Nature. The team's findings reveal the key role and mechanism of HIF-1α in cytokine storms caused by novel coronavirus infection -- another significant achievement in the field of novel coronavirus infection and pathogenesis. The team previously published an article titled SARS-CoV-2 N protein promotes NLRP3 inflammasome activation to induce hyperinflammation in Nature Communications.

Wu is the corresponding author, and joint corresponding authors are JNU Profs. Zhang Qiwei and Luo Zhen. The first author is Tian Mingfu, a post-doctoral researcher at JNU, with joint first authors Dr. Liu Weiyong of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Dr. Li Xiang of Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention. This research is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
