During Guangzhou’s most recent Covid-19 outbreak, in addition to medical staff, many volunteers from all walks of life have rushed to the front line to fight the epidemic together. Among them have been many young people from Hong Kong and Macao. Li Yang from Macao and Deng Jialin from Hong Kong, both students at JNU, helped protect Guangzhou in different ways.
Li, a student in JNU's School of Stomatology, organized student volunteers from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas to do nucleic acid testing in the hospital where she practiced.

After working all day, though her protective clothing was soaked through with rain and sweat, she and her classmates comforted one another: saying, We had a free sauna!
After experiencing the front-line epidemic work, Li said bluntly, As a student from Macao, it made me so proud to participate in this nucleic acid testing work.”
Deng not only worked hard on the front line but also joined with his classmates to build an epidemic science information platform.
Last year, a group of JNU students organized a volunteer science popularization team for Covid-19, with more than 120 students from the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan participating. They worked under the guidance of Associate Prof. Ming Weikai from the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in Hong Kong.
In early June, Deng decided to volunteer on the front line of nucleic acid screening as a medical student after receiving notification that full nucleic acid testing would be carried out in Guangzhou's Tianhe District.

After the outbreak, Deng said he felt a sense of security living in Guangzhou, but also a deeper understanding of a medical worker's responsibility and mission.
