A delegation led by Wang Xi, vice governor of Guangdong, visited Jinan University to inspect the security of chemical laboratories. He was accompanied by Chen Anming, deputy secretary general of the provincial government; Jing Lihu, director of Guangdong Department of Education; Gong Guoping, director of the Department of Science and Technology, and Tu Gaokun, director of the Department of Industry and Information Technology. 

Wang inspected the Guangdong Provincial Drug Carrier Development Engineering Technology Research Center and the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Functional Ligand Supramolecular Materials and Applications.  He listened to a detailed report on laboratory security by the head of the College of Chemistry and Materials Science and gave specific instruction on the management and use of dangerous chemicals and gas cylinders. He pointed out that safety incidents and campus accidents have recently occurred in many places in China. Therefore, he said, universities should fulfill their responsibilities, learn from the past to make every effort to do a good job in laboratory safety management, and promote the use of advanced intelligent management technology to assist in security administration.

In a concluding speech, JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng recognized the center's achievements in its construction in the last six months. He said he would require the center to focus on five aspects of its construction:

•Intensifying coordinative cooperation, school units should enhance exchanges and the internal and external recruitment of researchers, make good use of the available staff, and add needed staff to address inadequacies. 

•The center should augment the theoretical interpretation of its research; hold in-depth discussion on the connotation and extension of Chinese culture; and pay attention to refining, stratifying and classifying research and promoting results. 

•It should promote people-to-people exchanges, conduct comparative studies of Chinese and Western cultures, and focus on spreading Chinese culture by making it appealing to the West. 

•It should strengthen talent cultivation, implement a collaborative education mode, and set up interdisciplinary degree programs. 

•It should reinforce the system construction; establish systems for personnel recruiting, fund management and submission of results, as well as standardize management to produce results promptly.
