Jinan University won the championship in the finals of the 2020-21 ASC World College Student Supercomputer Challenge, which ended at Southern University of Science and Technology on May 12. The main national news channel, CCTV, reported on the competition.
The award ceremony
JNU's team was guided and led by Yang Guanghua, vice dean of the School of Intelligent Science and Engineering. The contestants were five undergraduates: Wen Xiehao (captain, 2017 class in industrial engineering, School of Intelligent Science and Engineering), Tan Yuhan (2017 class in electrical engineering, International Energy Institute), Lai Zimeng (2017 class in internet of things engineering, School of Intelligent Science and Engineering), Li Jiaming (2018 class in software engineering, School of Intelligent Science and Engineering) and Hu Jing (2019 class in information security, School of Intelligent Science and Engineering).
The competition
The Tsinghua University team won second place with excellent results in the benchmark test, pulsar search optimization and other competitions.
The ASC20-21 Supercomputer Challenge was jointly held by Asian Supercomputer Association, Southern University of Science and Technology and Inspur, a cloud computing and big data company. More than 300 university teams from all over the world entered, and 28 advanced to the finals after preliminaries this year.
The ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge was initiated and organized by China and supported by experts and institutions in Asia, Europe and the United States. The competition promotes exchanges and training of young supercomputer talents among countries and regions to improve the level of super-computing applications and research-and-development abilities; to give play to the technological driving force of supercomputers; and to promote innovation in science, technology and industries. The competition has been held for nine consecutive sessions, attracting more than 10,000 students from all over the world; it is the world’s largest college supercomputer competition.
