Prof. Chen Yiping, vice president of JNUs School of International Studies and Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies, spoke at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) 2021 Annual Conference-Chinese Business Leaders and Chinese Think Tanks Roundtable in Boao, Hainan, on April 19. The forum, whose theme was Sharing Opportunities With Confidence and Developing Together, attracted 29 Chinese business representatives, as well as think tank experts from 11 countries and regions. Subtopics included Chinese wisdom and the role of overseas Chinese in global governance; promoting high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative and people-to-people exchanges; the globalization of Chinese culture; the exchange and mutual appreciation of Chinese and Western culture; and joint efforts to build Hainan Free Trade Port.
Chen, who is also the chief expert of the Base of Casting Chinese Nation Community Consciousness, spoke on Chinese Wisdom and Role of Overseas Chinese in Global Governance.”
Chen said the models and concepts of global governance need reform and innovation in a period of international turmoil and conflicts triggered by once-in-a-century changes and the pandemic, with Chinese wisdom and the Chinese approach as a significant reference. Overseas Chinese, owing to their advantages in local integration, cultural exchange, transnational mobility and global network, are a unique force in global governance and building a community with a shared future for mankind, playing an irreplaceable role in this process, he said. They become promoters of the concept of building that community; participants in the Belt and Road Initiative and regional cooperation; leaders of domestic and international economic revival; and interpreters of cultural exchange and dialogue between China and the world.
