With 56 undergraduate teams from nursing schools in South and Central China, the competition included preliminary rounds to examine the contestants by Objective Structured Clinical Examination, semi-final round in which teams competed in separate tracks, and the final round with the same situation, limitations and conditions for the finalists. The competition disciplines related to expertise and technical skills in nursing science, including medicine, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics, emergency and severe cases, gerontology and community medicine. As a result, it demonstrated that higher medical education in China attached great importance to professional quality, clinical thinking ability and technical skills for nursing students, guiding Chinese colleges and universities to implement all-around reform to improve the curriculum system, teaching methods, faculty and practical teaching bases.
