Prof. Liu Jizhen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of JNU’s Energy and Power Research Center, gave an academic lecture titled Energy Transformation Path and Key Technologies Under Dual Carbon Target to teachers and students in the School of Electrical Engineering on April 8.
Prof. Liu Min, executive president of the School of Electrical Engineering and executive director of the Energy and Power Research Center, hosted this lecture, attended by more than 500 faculty members, undergraduates and graduate students.
Based on the academic achievements of his paper with the same title, Liu Jizhen pointed out that as the world's largest energy consumer and carbon emitter, China must immediately carry out an energy revolution. He also elaborated on by China's energy development challenges, targeting the sustained rapid growth of energy demand and great pressure to guarantee energy supply. In addition, the growing dependence on imported oil and gas has led to a gloomy outlook for energy security. And there are also problems like the conflicts in the distribution of energy resources and load centers, difficulties in the consumption of a high percentage of renewables, environmental protection, and carbon emissions. Based on current events, policies and his expertise, he explained hot topics like global warming, carbon sink, peak carbon dioxide emissions, and carbon.
He then answered questions from the audience, shared his views on the denuclearization proposed by some Western countries and analyzed China's abandonment of wind and solar energy. He also discussed how ordinary electricity users, as well as students and workers in the power industry, could contribute to China's energy revolution.
