Jinan University signed a three-way agreement on the second phase of construction of the JNU Science and Technology Innovation Park (Zhuhai) with Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government and the Xiangzhou District People's Government during the Science and Technology Innovation Conference in Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai city, on March 29. JNU's Research Institute in Zhuhai simultaneously started construction. Attending the ceremony were Zhuhai Mayor Yao Yisheng, Deputy Mayor Li Chong, JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng and Vice President Zhang Hong, who signed the agreement for JNU.

Covering 31,500 square meters, the first phase of the Science Park, which includes a conference center, an academic exchange center and a high-level research and development center, officially started construction in 2018 and was completed in 2020. The Zhuhai Municipal Government and the Xiangzhou District Government jointly invested 2 billion yuan in the second phase to build a complex covering 200,000 square meters, mainly scientific research buildings, industrial buildings and affiliated public primary schools.

The research and industrial complex will merge with the academic exchange center as the JNU Science and Technology Innovation Park (Zhuhai). Together with the public kindergarten the Xiangzhou government built for JNU and the unfinished public primary school, the complex will be used for new subject construction, talent introduction, scientific research and academic exchange on Zhuhai campus.

JNU's Zhuhai Research Institute, a new R&D center, is an independent legal entity jointly constructed by the Zhuhai government, the Xiangzhou district government and JNU. 

Taking advantage of Zhuhai's advantageous location and serving Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the Zhuhai Research Institute is oriented toward industrial innovation and gathering cutting-edge teams. It is intended to make breakthroughs in core technologies and cultivate international innovative platforms for crucial and initial innovative achievements, technologically and intellectually supporting Zhuhai city's economic and social development, and aiming to be a significant new R&D center.
