An anti-COVID-19 story titled Ming Weijie: Make a Difference in the Pandemic, won the Outstanding Story Award in Remember the Moments, a worldwide selection of young people's stories about fighting the pandemic, sponsored by the All-China Youth Federation and undertaken by China Youth Daily. The winning story, submitted by Ming, an associate professor in JNU's School of Medicine, and his volunteer service team, was recommended by the university's Communist Youth League.
After the pandemic broke out, Ming, who comes from Hong Kong, quickly organized a youth volunteer service team for preventing, controlling and raising awareness of COVID-19. Through online groups and WeChat posts, the team used its professional advantages and youth strengths to answer questions, popularize medical knowledge, stop online rumors and help with personal protection. In October, Ming was named a National Advanced Individual in Combating COVID-19 by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the China Youth Volunteer Association. In December, he and his team won the Outstanding Individual Award and the Outstanding Team Award in honor of their excellent volunteer work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the theme Youth Action Fighting COVID-19, Remember the Moments was organized by the All-China Youth Federation, along with the Asian Youth Council, the Soka Gakkai Youth Division of Japan, India's Confederation of Young Leaders, Russia's Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, the Latin America-China Political and Economic Research Center, and the Czech Republic's MPMP Media. The activity called for stories of international youth fighting the pandemic in various forms, including pictures, short videos, texts and songs, viewable on cooperating media around the world.
