Zhang Yun, an associate professor in JNU's School of International Studies/Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies was among eight young scholars who won the Outstanding Youth Achievements in Political Science Award at a symposium on the development of Chinese political science in the new era, held in Beijing on Dec. 5. 

The symposium was organized by the Chinese Association of Political Science (CAOPS) was organized by CAOPS to celebrate its 40th anniversary. It was supported by the Political Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the School of Government Management of University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In attendance were nearly 100 experts and scholars from universities and research institutes across the country. 

Zhang's award-winning paper, Regional Governance in International Relations: Theoretical Construction and Comparative Analysis, published in the seventh issue of Social Sciences in China in 2019, was one of the few academic achievements on international relations among the selected works. CAOPS recognized the paper as a theoretical article that systematically analyzes regional governance theory in China. The paper points out that regional governance breaks through the restriction of the traditional West-centered theory and state-centered theory; it also provides a new direction in thinking for global governance in uncertain times. This paper is of great significance to the analysis of regional coordination, regional management and  monitoring, and other relevant governance mechanisms; emerging research on the Belt and Road initiative; and the study of peripheral diplomacy and Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macao Greater Bay Area.
