Prof. Zhong Cixian and his wife, Prof. Xia Xiaoluan, donated 1 million RMB to establish the JNU Zhong Chen Yulan Award for Research and Overseas Chinese Education in the name of his mother, Chen Yulan. The donation ceremony was held online on Dec. 4.

JNU Vice President Hong An expressed sincere appreciation in his speech to the couple, who have strongly supported JNU and scientific research for 20 years. Hong said the award would bolster the development of international education and optical engineering at JNU and encourage JNUers to keep innovating in scientific research and teaching.

On Oct. 26, 2017, the couple donated 1 million RMB to JNU to establish the Zhong Chen Yulan Fund and the JNU Zhong Chen Yulan Research Forum Fund. The funds have been used  to set up an academic forum for postgraduate students in optics and optical engineering, and to promote overall development and talent cultivation in that field.

Chen Yulan studied in JNU's Department of Education when the school was in Hongkou, Shanghai, from 1946 to 1949. After graduation, Chen always cared for and supported her alma mater. During a visit to the History Museum of Jinan University in 2017, Zhong presented Chen's MBA diploma from JNU to the museum for its collection.
