Two JNU students came in first in their groups in the 10th Guangdong Mathematics Competition for University Students, part of the 12th China Mathematics Competition for University Students, Guangdong Division, on Nov. 28. With the support of JNU leaders and the Panyu campus committee, JNU provided test venues for 770 students from five universities, and its students achieved the best results in JNU's history.
Xie Shihuai of the Department of Physics in JNU's College of Science and Engineering ranked first in the mathematics major group, and Liu Yuanxin of the School of Economics's Department of Public Finance won in the economic management group.
Students from 50 colleges and universities in Guangdong competed, including Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology and The Chinese University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen. From JNU, 169 students entered the competition in groups for three majors: mathematics, non-mathematics and economic management. They won one first prize and five third prizes in mathematics; nine first prizes, 10 second prizes and 22 third prizes in non-mathematics; and two first prizes, five second prizes and five third prizes in economic management.
