The 114th-anniversary ceremony of the founding of Jinan University, along with the launching ceremony for the 115th-anniversary celebration year, was held on Nov. 11 on the main campus. More than 300 people attended, including the leaders of the 10th Bureau of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China; JNU board members and leaders; teacher and student representatives; an alumni representative, and an alumni entrepreneur representative.
JNU Board Chairman Wan Gang, who is also vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of China Zhi Gong Party, delivered a video speech. The leaders of the 10th Bureau expressed warmest congratulations to JNU.
On behalf of more than 70,000 students and teachers, JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng extended sincerest welcome to the guests, faculty members, students and alumni who attended. He said he hoped they and JNU could make the university a more outstanding, more international and better school, and contribute more to making China a modern socialist country.
Trustee Ma Youheng said more than 14,000 JNUers and board members had donated over 13 million yuan to China during this year's pandemic. He added that the Alumni Association would give full play to the role of alumni as the bridge between JNU and all sectors of society, spreading the stories of JNU and China to the world.
President Song Xianzhong reported on JNU's 14th five-year plan and put forward the overall goal and task of school development, which includes such essential development concepts as promoting distinctive characteristics and achieving domestic first-class status, even world-renowned high-level.
Lin read out the Fund-Raising Action Initiative. JNU plans to raise 1 billion yuan within five years (2021-2025) to build a more outstanding, more international and better JNU through the joint efforts of faculty members and students, trustees and alumni worldwide, and the forces from all walks of life. During the anniversary ceremony, JNU received the first 122 million yuan in donations.
At the donation ceremony, Lin and Song took the stage to accept the donation check and issued the donation certificate to the alumni.
In addition, 22 donor representatives presented awards to more than 160 outstanding students at the second Social Grants Award Ceremony.
