The third High-Level Ecological Forum of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held at Jinan University on Nov, 4. The forum, focusing on ozone prevention and control and carbon emission peaking, discussed the challenges faced by the Greater Bay Area in green and low-carbon development. It brought together participants from inside and outside the province, including experts, scholars and representatives of the petrochemical, steel, power and related industries. They exchanged views with government leaders on topics including carbon energy and emissions; climate change challenges and the Greater Bay Area's response; and climate change plans and actions. Attendees gave their suggestions from the perspectives of scientific awareness, technical methods, management innovation and industry cultivation.
The forum has been held since 2018. Focusing on the ecological and environmental challenges in the Greater Bay Areas' s construction, the forum is committed to developing into an important exchange platform and consultation think tank.
In addition, to advocate green and low-carbon lifestyle and culture, it implemented the concept of green meetings by means of carbon inclusion. It offset carbon emissions generated by transportation, catering, accommodations and other conference activities by purchasing forestry carbon sink emission reduction in poverty-stricken villages in Guangdong to achieve carbon neutrality, create a zero-carbon forum and help targeted alleviation of poverty.
