JNU alumnus donates to dormitory construction

The donation and unveiling ceremony of Jinan University's Mai Yantong Building was held in front of Building T1 on the Panyu campus on Oct. 18. Mai Zhaoping, a member of the 1986 class in food chemistry who is vice chairman of the Guangdong Hongfa Investment Group Co., Ltd., donated 20 million yuan to support the construction of student dormitories.
To commemorate the gift and encourage future generations, JNU renamed Building T1 the Mai Yantong Building, in honor of Mais father. Attending the unveiling ceremony were Mai Zhaoping; Li Jianye, its vice president; Mai Qiqi, its director; Mai Ziye, executive director of the company's Huizhou headquarters; JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng; Vice President Zhang Ronghua, and department and college leaders, as well as representatives of the Dongguan Alumni Association.

Since the Panyu campus was built in 2012, Lin said, funds have been established for its construction and development, landscaping and Mongolian yurt. With the support of more than 30,000 alumni, total donations exceed 500 million yuan. This year, Mai Zhaoping donated 20 million to the school's construction and development.
After reminiscing about his study experience at JNU, Mai Zhaoping thanked the university for its training and expressed pride in its development. He said his father and the Hongfa Group had always been enthusiastic about public education. The completion of the Mai Yantong Building continues his father's long-cherished wish for education.

At the donation ceremony, Lin accepted the donation check from Mai Zhaoping and presented him with the donation certificate and a souvenir. Student representatives presented flowers in thanks.
