JNU's Institute of Public Opinion and Social Governance (2020TSZK001), led by Prof.  Lin Rupeng, JNU Party Secretary, and the Green Development Research Center (2020TSZK003), led by Prof. Shen Hongtao, have been approved as the 2020 Think Tank With New Characteristics of Ordinary Universities in Guangdong, according to the list of key scientific research platforms and projects of 2020 in Ordinary Universities, released the Guangdong Department of Education.

This year The Guangdong Department of Education opened applications for the list for the first time, and 21 research institutions were approved.

By coordinating national, provincial and municipal development strategies, the Institute of Public Opinion and Social Governance plays a role in building interdisciplinary and open research centers and think tanks. Focusing on major theoretical problems, major actual challenges and major social concerns, it promotes the deep integration of internal reference reports, popular science training and academic research. In addition, it has a strong advantage in research on dissemination of big data; political discourse analysis; development of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan; and public opinion on the Belt and Road.

The Green Development Research Center meets demands in green development strategy of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era. It focuses on such fields as green and coordinated regional development in the macro view; green finance market construction in the meso view; and enterprise green technology innovation and production in the micro view, carrying out high-level basic and forward-looking academic research. To date, the center has offered to undertake research projects including several national key projects and World Bank Technical Assistance Projects. It is also involved in formulating national, local and industry green development standards, providing green development policy consultations and suggestions to the government. In addition, it has published the blue paper Guangdong Ecological Civilization and Low-Carbon Development Research Report for four consecutive years and has guided many companies in their green development practices.
