The Ministry of Education has authorized Jinan University to establish the Collaborative Innovation Center for Chinese Cultural Heritage, another breakthrough for JNU in national-level scientific research platforms.
The announcement was made in A Notice on Recognizing Collaborative Innovation Centers Jointly Built by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Provinces/Municipalities in 2020 (Jiao Ke Ji Ting Han [2020] 39),” issued by the ministry's General Office in September.
JNU will collaborate with the China News Service, Huaqiao University, Hong Kong Baptist University’s Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the University of Macao's Faculty of Arts and Humanities and other units. The new center follows the establishment of the Research Base for Improving the Chinese National Community Consciousness at JNU.
JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng was appointed chairman and director of the center. With its commitment to passing on the essence of Chinese culture to people beyond the Chinese mainland in various ways, the center seeks to address problems that hinder the process.

The Collaborative Innovation Centers are an important part of the 2011 Project for Institutions of Higher Learning Innovation Ability Enhancement, a major national strategic measure launched in 2011 after the well-known 211 and 985 Projects. The Collaborative Innovation Centers have four types. JNU's is oriented toward cultural heritage; the other three focus on science, industry and regional development.
