Unlike many other freshmen who came to the university on Sept. 20, Long Jun, a physical education major in the 2020 Physical Education Institute, was admitted as early as two years ago. But Long chose to serve his country first joining the air force after a rigorous physical examination. It was a great honor for him to become a serviceman he said; because his father is a soldier, he has respected this identity since childhood, and thus being a serviceman is his goal. I also want to exercise myself, he said.

Long said life during his two years in the air force in Xinjiang was different from what he had pictured. Born in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Hunan province, he had to adapt to the climate in Xinjiang, with strong wind and little rain. It is so dry that I got nosebleeds the moment I came to Xinjiang, he said.
Daily air force training focuses mainly on professional skill training. We take training every day, so there is not much leisure time, Long said. In his time as a serviceman, there were moments when he was homesick. There were no holidays for servicemen, and initially phone use was strictly controlled, he said. Therefore, when we missed our families, we would call them on the landline phone one by one. But later, we were allowed to contact our families with our mobile phones in our spare time.
(Long Jun reported in JNU)
Now that he is at Jinan University, he says college life is free, and he is adapting to his new identity.
