JNU signed an agreement to establish the College of Japan of JNU with the Japan Chiyoda Education Group on July 10. Participating in the online signing ceremony were Zhan Kongchao, overseas Chinese affairs counselor and consul general of the Chinese Embassy in Japan; Chen Xiujie, president of the Japan Chiyoda Education Group; representatives of Japanese supporters and overseas Chinese; JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng, President Song Xianzhong and Vice President Zhang Hong; and relevant people in charge of this program.

To speed the opening-up of education in the new era, Li said, JNU has been actively preparing to establish the College of Japan after thorough investigation and discussion. He said it aimed to meet demand rom Chinese and overseas students in Japan for high-quality Chinese education resources and to build JNU's reputation overseas. In addition, he mentioned that the College of Japan would set up many majors, including Chinese education, news, traditional Chinese medicine and economic management.

On behalf of the Japan Chiyoda Education Group, Chen thanked everyone in China and Japan who has been supporting preparation for the new college. She also said the Japan Chiyoda Education Group, as an educational institution founded by overseas Chinese, would continue to work with JNU to spread Chinese culture by taking the college as a platform. The establishment of JNU's College of Japan is not only a collaboration between two educational institutions, she said, but also has a more far-reaching significance: the high-quality teaching resources of JNU can extend and radiate to Chinese and overseas students in Japan.
On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Zhan extended warm congratulations to both sides and thanked JNU and friends from all walks of life for their long-term care and support for Chinese education in Japan.

Approved by the Central Committee's United Front Work Department in March, JNU's College of Japan is its first overseas campus promoting the co-construction of education activities under the Belt and Road initiative. The college in Tokyo will offer undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs; continuing education and education training; academic exchanges, and other educational services.
