For the first time, JNU ranks 33rd nationwide and between 605th and 650th worldwide in the London-based QS World University Rankings 2021, released on June 10. The rankings assess more than 1,000 universities around the world.
JNU first appeared on QS Asian University Rankings in 2016, and its spot has risen year by year, providing the basis for its place in this year's World University Rankings. Among QS World Universities, 83 are in China, 17 more than last year; of those, 51 are on the mainland, 7 in Hong Kong, 2 in Macao and 23 in Taiwan.
Six indicators are used in compiling the annual rankings: academic reputation counts 40%, employer reputation 10%, student-to-faculty ratio 20%, citations per faculty member 20%, and international student ratios and faculty ratios 5% each. JNU ranks 133rd, 251st and 301st, respectively, in QS’s measures of international student ratios, international faculty ratios and citations per faculty member, which greatly contributed to JNU's final ranking.
As one of the four most important university rankings, recognized worldwide, the QS World University Rankings are compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds. They are the most widely read and accessible university rankings in the world.
